Body and mind travel in different directions. Reality and virtuality create identity. Where are we migrating? Who will fill the emptiness that stays if our return does not take place? Unsent messages. Messages have not been received. Digital sky, the distance increases, the fear of losing the signal too. The presence remains only online.
 
* "Message to heaven"
An image presupposes visibility. The sky, which we see above our heads, is perceived as something visible, yet, the faith in the transcendental gives this visibility a profound meaning: we do not just have some blue space above but a symbol of spiritual life. If the sky is digitalized, is it still regarded as a symbol of spirituality? What are we going to send into this sky- prayers or messages? Maybe digital is the new transcendental and we have just laid the path to "the lost paradise" through the back door?!

* "No avatar / CMYK"
The purpose of icons is to remind of God in the form of the Original image, in the image and after the likeness of Who people were created. Three most frequently used social networks, when you do not have an avatar, propose for their users a schematic image, a sort of visualized "absence of presence", which at first glance is associated with an icon: "a halo, nimbus" that is created on account of ovelapping CMYK colours - the abstract model for the description of the basic colours, meant to secure "deciphering" by digital gadgets. 
What can we view as the Original Image: the spiritual being, symbolically reflected in the icon, or a digital code visualised by a notional image-mask? Can we see any correspondence between 《the relation between God vs His iconic image》 and 《the relation between a digital code vs its visualization》. Which way do material, spiritual and digital combine in our modern identity?

"The Garden of Earthly Delights"

The video work "The Garden of Earthly Delights" was created after a visit to the historic training ground from World War II, created by Adolf Hitler (after the eviction of all residents) in the Austrian town of Döllersheim. According to credible rumors, the inhabitants of this small town knew about Hitler's Jewish ancestry from the line of his grandmother who gave birth to his father Alois while serving at home with a Jewish family named Frankenberger in the city of Graz. Rumor has it that Adolf Hitler, by bombing the entire town, wanted to erase this shameful fact for him. The photos taken in the nearby cemetery build an atmosphere of peace, reconciliation and eternal rest.
This film uses excerpts from the iconic 1969 "Easy Rider" directed by Dennis Hopper from a screenplay by Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda.
 
* "The Garden of Earthly Delights"
The usage of the scenes from the "Easy Rider" in the video establishes the connection with the idea articulated in the movie by D. Hopper: the presence of the domestic fascism in the country symbolic of the Western democracy, in The United States of the 1960s. The scenes in the movie by Grzegorz Sztwiertnia, illustrating a modern cemetery- the symbol that serves as the embodiment of tranquility and peacefulness- as if declare that this quiet sight, where only dead remained, is the only way to have differences reconcile. 
 
4. Olexa Furdiyak (UA)
"Guillotine"

The purpose of the project is to cover "ashes syndrome" – a phenomenon when a person, group of persons or organizations simulated or distorted by the concept of faith and rituals. When there is a replacement and where the internal experiences are falsified by external manifestations.
The purpose and reason for this simulation is arbitrary.
 
* "Guillotine"
According to the Christian tradition, sprinkling ashes on the head is connected with the belief that sin is not a private business but concerns the whole community. Till our days this action has been only preserved in the form of a phrase "to sprinkle ashes on one's head", meaning to repent and express remorse publicly. Guillotine- "a temporary instrument for humanistic execution", was used for public beheading during the enforcement of death penalty. The guillotine of O. Furdiyak does not require an executioner, it involves "safe self-punishment". The public nature of the repentance ritual via marking with ash marginalised its initial sense: the act of contrition was replaced by the remorseful gesture. A visually scary and threatening guillotine is only the means to attract attention to the sight, which poses no real threat. The real contrition, the sincere one will not take place because it is replaced by the impressive amusing show.

* "Colored mirror" from the project "Old mirrors"
The function of a mirror is to reflect the reality the way it is. Historically a painting is both a mirror, as it reflects the world, and also a "metaphysical" window into the transcendental that highlights the perfect existence- the world of original images. A colourful painting-mirror is associated with a rainbow that in the Christian religion serves as an attribute of God's glory and a promise of forgiveness and revival after the Great Flood. Paradise is lost but hope still remains.

Human being can stay without sleep for 3-4 days. After 2 days of insomnia neural connections of the brain are destroyed, and irreversible changes begin.
Human being needs to get into the dream, but it is not only physical necessity, it is another dimension of our existence.
The main character of the film is single mother, and her main wish is to fall asleep, but she cannot. Therefore, she decides to come for it by herself, even if angel from Heaven must die for her sleep, she must fall asleep.

* "Avarice and lust"
Covetousness and voluptuousness or greed and lust in the Christian tradition belong to the worst flaws. These sins are considered to be exceptionally heavy because their satisfaction leads to the appearance of other sinful desires and, as a result, suppresses the mind and faith. At the root of these flaws is self-love and love of this world instead of love for God: "For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world" (1 John 2:16). We are constantly forced to make a choice between love to ourselves&the world and the moral obligations. Nevertheless weakness has been a part of human nature since times immemorial.

* "Mirage"
Every ideology is based in one way or another on fears, prejudices and myths. In accordance with these preconditions, ideology forms the idea of good and evil and structures reality with their help. The attitude to a person is purely instrumental in this clash of ideas. This was the case until recently, but today it no longer works that way. The subjectivity of a person seeks to displace the semantic constructions imposed by ideology. The world of ideologies as a clash of ideas is a thing of the past for Anton Saienko. The artist reflects on modernity, abandoning images that could be read as a narrative of social existence. Modernity resists any certainty. You can only capture the visibility – a mirage.

The role of a woman in the society was for a long period of time based on the prejudice coming from the Holy Scripture. In the past woman's appeal for desensitizing during labor was rejected on account of the words in the Bible. Who is in reality the source of prejudice: God, who spells doom for people or the society that interprets everything up to one's liking, advantage?

"Where the beginning begins"

"Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear." (Gen. 1: 9)
Water is the edge on which the "other world" begins. It is the beginning and sometimes the end of life (the Great Flood). The peoples of almost all ancient cultures believed that the human soul, leaving this world, crosses the water. At the same time, bathing in water (the rite of baptism) - we are born.
Also its feature is fluidity and ability to cycle. The type of water is a continuous change of forms that do not repeat. In fact, it is a universal symbol that carries the cyclical nature of everything. And contemplation of it gives a feeling of calm and balance, gives the opportunity to feel natural and peaceful.
 
* "Where the beginning begins"
The religious worldview that appeared to replace the mythological one proposed a linear concept of time in contrast to the cyclic understanding of it where life and death is the eternal circular movement. The expulsion from the Paradise is a cut-off point from which, according to the Christian tradition, the factual history of humankind takes its beginning and moves to its final point in the future- The End of the World or Judgement Day. The understanding of the duration, as of a direction from the past to the future, has become a role model for many cultural practices, yet, the cyclic understanding of the processes and structures which determine the rhythm of our life coexists with the linear model. The image of water combines in an ambivalent way the idea of irrevocability of changes and of eternal returning, resembling the movement down the circle.

Because of sin we died and because of death we are born…
But what's left?
Imprint… should… mask… form that does not fully convey the essence of the object…
What do we see?
DEATH… birth… TRANSITION… OPPORTUNITY… CHANGE… wasteland…
POWDER… MOVEMENT… return to PARADISE…
This is a kind of conclusion of earthly existence

For the religious consciousness our material life in this world serves an introduction to the real life, life after death. However, the understanding of the inevitability of one's death motivates us to seek the sense of our life. Maybe that's what actually makes it real? Maybe the very process of seeking the sense of our life turns the introduction to the Paradise into the real Paradise?
